Artichoke is the Winters College Magazine at York University, and I got to run the 25–26 revival team in terms of branding, editorial work, merchandise, socials, etc...etc…etc…

This project was made possible alongside the amazing Editing team I had, and the talented designers who worked on making my vision possible.

A list of them in alphabetical order:
Akosua Badu
Alina Zehra
Fernando Zermeño Gómez
—Jasmine Tran
Justine Santos
Kristen Olivia Jolly
—Mae Lai
Natasza Kaminski
Yasmin Kayondo
—Yolanda Wu
My favourite spreads designed by me:
The rebrand for Artichoke included a new logo!
The typeface we chose for the new logo had everything we wanted new Artichoke to be, loud, big, and it looked kinda artichoke-diamond shaped.
This was also the project that got me really into AfterEffects. Thank you to the editing staff who were so patient with my ideas for posts I didn't know how to make. We figured it out in the end.
Reviving Artichoke had to feel big, bright, and fun.
People needed to be excited for it. A lot of the visual work stemmed from that thought. The neon colours, stretchy text, and various display fonts were meant to convey that this was first and foremost:
a) An art and opinion magazine
b) Not the average school publication
In total, four Artichokes came out during my run. All focused on different aspects of the Winters College creative faculty. Starting anew, secret projects, being an artist in the city, and the endless drafts any creative has.
We also ran stickers for each issue! They used the new Artichoke mascot a bunch. Isn't he cute? These were all illustrated by me, with the exception of two on the yellow sheet, made by Alina Zehra.

You can also see the mascot in Issue 4: 'Till Death Do We Draft where my friend Larry made a comic of me getting baked into a cake.
